#3. (Last Name M-Z) IQ Controversy (Thursday 2/8 at 11:30)
If your last name begins with M-Z, complete this blog.
The argument that there is a link between IQ and delinquency has existed since the 1920's. However the argument has changed somewhat.
1.First explain the earlier arguments about the link between IQ and delinquency.
2.Then summarize the current discussion about the link between IQ and delinquency, including any examples of evidence (research, data, etc.).
3.What is your opinion about the current view about the link between IQ and delinquency, is there a link between low IQ and delinquency? (5 points)

8 Comments:
1. Earlier criminologista say that the major cause of delinquency is caused by an individual with a low IQ. They said that juveniles who were not as intelligent were the individuals who commit crimes.
2. The current discussion about the link between IQ and delinquency is still some what the same. Criminologists say that juveniles who score low on the IQ tests are more likely to be the juveniles who are comitting all the crime. IQ tests are given to individuals to determine how intelligent they are.
3. I believe the criminologists when they say that IQ plays a big part with delinguency. Juveniles who score higher on the IQ tests are the ones that stay in school longer. The kids who tested low on their IQ test are the ones that are found in prisons.
1.In the 1920's criminologists belivied that IQ testing could measure the genitic make of a criminal.
2.Today arguments about the link between IQ an delinquency says that children with low IQ's perform badly in school, witch causes them to become delinquents.Children with low IQ's are also more likely to misreads foolish acts and gestures and are more likely to react.(pg.94)
3.I do think there is a link between IQ and delinquency. The children who score highly on these 9 times out of 10 are the ones who go on to college or trade schools.Compared to the children who do not do as well on the IQ test they most likely do not finish high school
1. Early criminologists believed that low IQ was a major cause of delinquency and that the majority of delinquents had low levels of intelligence. They came up with the nature and nurture theories. The first being that low intelligence is genetically determined and inherited; the second being that intelligence is partly biological but mostly sociological. These two arguments were from the 1920s and 30s.
2. Today's arguments about IQ and delinquency are still somewhat the same as before. Some believe that IQ has an indirect influence on delinquency (low IQ leads to school failure, and academic deficiency has been associated with delinquency). Others believe that IQ may have a direct influence on delinquent involvement (youths with limited intelligence are more likely to misinterpret events and gestures, act foolishly, take risks, and engage in harmful behavior).
3. I think that there is a link between IQ and delinquency but only to a certain extent. I think that when you tell a child that they are not smart enough because they did not score as high as other children on a test, they become discouraged and angered which may lead to a life of crime for them.
1. The first argument is that children with low IQ are most likely to commit a deliquent behavior, because of their "poor verbal ability that also creates a frustrating school experience". it also leads to school failure, and academic absence.
The second argument also has a different view, which says " low intelligence limit youngsters' ability to see the consequences of their mistakes, and also to appreciate the feelings of victims".
2. The link between IQ and delinquency is divisive, because it has been an argument that has been fueled by complaints, that most research conducted are culturally partial, and the most recent evidence are viewed as being indecicive, also it is also said that, a condition is present at birth, which accounts for a child's deliquent behavior throughout life cycle, and it cannot be easily changed or improved.
3. In my outlook, i believe there is a connection between them, in which, children who has a low IQ are more liable to crime, because, by not having an educational background, it will impact their lives in which they will have to make a rational decision about committing crime, or not commiting crime
1.Earlier arguments said that there is a link between IQ and delinquency. IQ measure the inborn genetic makeup of individuals. If a child has a low IQ they are the ones who will most likely commit crimes and become a criminal.
2. There isn't really a relationship between IQ and Delinquency. Even if the relationship prove to be true there isn't a direct one. They just saying if you have low IQ you will probably be more likely to commit crimes instead of a person with a high IQ.
3. I beleive that it really doesn't matter if you score high or low on the IQ test. Just be cause you score low it doesn't mean you have to commit crimes because there are people who score high on the IQ test who are commiting crimes. Everybody can decide what they want to do in there life they don't have to go by the IQ test scores.
1. Earlier arguments say that juveniles with a low IQ are more likely to commit crimes. Also that majortiy of the delinquents have low IQs.
2. in the current discussion about the link between IQ and Delinquency are the same. They say that kids having low IQs do bad in school and make wrong decisions. which causes them to be delinquents.
3. I dont think that IQ really matters. Just because of a test or how smart a child is dont make them delinquents. I think its thier decision to be a delinquent, then as a delinquent thier IQ dont increase. Therefor the delinquents IQ are low. They stopped careing about school and learning.
1- It was believed that low IQ's was the major cause of delinquency.
When they gave an IQ test to the inmates of a juvenile training schools and at least half of juveniles got low scores. \
2- The views on IQ and delinquincy
are controversial today. While some people believe that if you are with a low IQ you will be a delinquent, but there are others that believe as you grow you develop your knowlage.
3- I believe that IQ has nothing to do with delinquency childern are not born with high IQs as they grow they learn. Ir every child had high IQs we wont need after school programs. If low IQs are the cause of delinquency then all most every child in the school system are in trouble.
1. It says earlier that individuals with a low IQ are more likely to commit crimes. This is also due to the lack of schooling and idle time when not in school in order to engge in crminal activity.
2. The argument did not really
change it still sticking to the claim that juveniles who commit a majority if not all crimes have scored below standard on these intelligence tests.
3. I believe that people with a low IQ have committed many crime that were more serious in a sense than people with high intelligence levels that commit crime, but those crimes committed are less serious offenses.
